He explored the South Pacific, New Zealand, Hawaii, Antarctica, the Arctic, Alaska, and the East Coast of Australia. Before Cook’s voyages many Europeans believed that the Pacific was a paradise where mysterious creatures lived. Cook and his crew made three Pacific voyages. They drew maps of the places they explored and sketches of the plants and animals that were native to these places. Cook and his crews also met people that were unknown to other European at the time. They recorded their observations in books. He also was an astronomer and enjoyed studying and writing about the planets.
